Mr. Trump failed his first major diplomatic test by releasing an inaccurate statement earlier today about the fall of Russian ally Syria, the origins of the war in Ukraine, its casualty numbers, and the current strength of Russia. Even small errors in public communication can fan the embers of global hostility and harm friendly relations between men who could easily negotiate a global peace.
